YOUR DIRTY HABIT

If you ask DJ/Producer duo YOUR DIRTY HABIT to name their crowning achievement so far, they quickly answer, “Signing to Sex Cult Records.” This answer comes expected as David Galloway and Eric Erwin are obvious picks for the lifestyle brand and imprint ran by Designer Drugs known for white knuckled partying and apocalyptic vibe. The duo’s impeccable production, cutting edge DJ sets and rise to popularity are a true testament to their strict work ethic since the official launch in 2008.

YDH quickly made strides in the electronic dance scene with numerous remixes and original material that caught the attention of System Recordings and Play Me Records, giving the duo their first official releases and a demanding tour schedule. “Maintaining a balance between touring and studio work is always a focus for us,” says Galloway, when asked how they have managed to release over forty tracks with a busy tour schedule in just three years.

2011 was a pivotal year for YDH given the success of their debut E.P. on Sex Cult which landed them a cross country tour with Designer Drugs. But, when asked about the future, 2012 looks even brighter for Your Dirty Habit and the listener as the duo is set to release numerous remixes, FIXTAPES and originals including their debut album. According to Galloway and Erwin the album will show fans what is next in the future of YDH and electronic dance music with a promise to blur the genre lines and prove that good music is just that.

October 2011 saw Symbiotic’s initial studio output, the “New Style EP”, [Dubline/Spun], received support from both Liquid Stranger and Tim Ismag. Forthcoming offerings include a release on Foriegn Banguage [Spring 2012], and Dub Factory Recordings, which includes a Bare Remix.

PHRENIK

While San Diego’s veteran DJ/Producer Phrenik made his mark on the Southern California electronic music scene primarily through drum and bass, unbeknownst to many, his influence and impact reaches much further. Both varied and versatile, with high-energy performances and critically acclaimed productions acting as his calling cards, Phrenik’s position as a major player in the world of EDM has been surely secured.

Long a staple on the SoCal scene, Phrenik’s popularity grew nationally and internationally through his highly rated radio show on DrumnBassTV.com, “The Resistance”, which he hosted for 5 years. After leaving the station in 2008 to focus on his production, his studio credibility began to start a buzz amongst the industry with his critically acclaimed dubstep remix of Rihanna’s hit, Disturbia, receiving downloads numbered in the thousands, hitting home with fans of both Rihanna and the grimey dubstep enthusiasts alike.

Since then, Phrenik’s reputation as a respected producer was further solidified when he teamed up with renowned vocalist Jillian Ann to create their breakthrough dubstep hit ‘Set It Off’ which broke the Beatport Top 50 within its first week of release on Simplify Recordings, not to mention also climbing to #1 in all-time label sales for the site. 2011 saw a steady flow of solid releases from Phrenik, coming from such bass heavy labels as London’s LU10 Recordings to LA’s Heavy Artillery Recordings. His recent follow-up release on Simplify, entitled the ‘Spy Games Chapter 1’, saw similar success by climbing to the Beatport Top 20 within its first week of sales as well.

2012 has proven to be a productive year so far for this prolific artist with many of his recent releases creating quite a buzz in the world of bass. Collaborations and plenty of remix work is scheduled for various labels including Simplify, Heavy Artillery, Rogue Dubs, Bombeatz Music and Sub Pressure Recordings to name a few. With such varied and quality productions on such a wide variety of fronts, and such a buzz around his upcoming releases, all while gathering support from many of the genre’s most notable producers including Bare, Figure, Mark Instinct, Cyberoptics and Total Recall, It’s no doubt Phrenik is quickly becoming one of the new bad boys of bass music.
